Associate City Attorney
The Associate City Attorney is responsible for performing professional legal work on behalf of the City, its officials, and its employees.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Reviews, investigates, and processes Freedom of Information Act requests using department software program.
- Reviews and processes damage claims and internal complaints in a timely manner and make a recommendation.
- May review and authorize or deny criminal complaints and warrants (including on periodic virtual weekends).
- May assist with reviewing and/or drafting contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents.
- May provide legal advice to assigned department officials and employees.
- Assist with 67th District Court cases.
- May assist with and/or conduct criminal, civil, and administrative litigation, on behalf of the City and its officials/employees, before local, state, and federal courts/agencies, including engaging in discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeals.
- Attends assigned meetings of City boards and commissions as legal counsel.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with court personnel, other City officials and employees, opposing counsel, and the general public.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited law school.
- License to practice law in the State of Michigan.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.
